Cert. 18 Length: 90 mins. Available on: Screen Multimedia, SE2407 Price: £2.99 Director: Scott Reynolds Starring: Rebecca Hobbs, Paolo Rotundo With: Jennifer Ward-Lealand Plot: An ambitious psychologist interviews a very disturbed inmate of a mental asylum to find out why he committed multiple murders. Comments: So slow moving that I fell into a sleep so profound that a group of medical students broke in and surgically removed my spleen with a knife and fork and no anesthetic. However, when I came to, I found this low budget Australian psycho thriller strangely compelling viewing which held my interest right up to the final denouement. The characters are all very ugly, especially the women. Surprisingly, the anti-hero isn't quite as ugly as you might expect. Some great almost arty camera work adds a certain amount of style to what could otherwise be a formulaic plod thru cliched territory. One noteable observation is that all the blood looks like Hershey's chocolate syrup - a trick used in the black and white "Psycho" to show up better on film - this film, however, is in colour. Dr Blood's rating: 5/10 |
