![]() Twenty years ago, when horror films reached their peak, we were all playing movie tie-ins and other horror games on something which many kids today have never even seen - a Sinclair ZX Spectrum. This was one of the first "affordable" home computers in the UK (in the US it was known as a Timex Sinclair 2048). With only 48kb RAM, its rubber keyboard and squeaky little PC speaker, it may not seem like any great shakes nowadays, but back in the 80s this little door wedge was the best thing to play games on. The following software needs to be used with a ZX Spectrum emulator. You will find dozens of them on the Net, but the best FREE one, in my opinion can be downloaded at ZX32. More games and emulators can be found at World of Spectrum - which is where all the following came from originally. Average download size is only 40kb per file. ZX Certified webmaster! Help the Addams Family defeat a plot to steal their wealth in this platformer. AlienIn space no one can hear you scream as you try to save the Nostromo from the alien menace. Aliens The adventure continues as you shoot the aliens in this gory sequel. Ant Attack 3D A 3D adventure in which you rescue your partner from a city full of giant ants. Atic Atac Fend off the monsters as you find the keys to open the doors. Then find the three parts of the front door key to escape. The Birds Shoot The Birds in this not-quite-Hitchcock space invader clone. The Blob Guide a The Blob round a maze of tunnels. The Crypt Enter the crypt and see if you can survive the onslaught of the monsters. The Devil Rides In Shoot things from within a magic circle of protection... based on The Devil Rides Out. DraculaPlay the part of Jonathan Harker in this classic text adventure. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Tomb of Dracula See if you can find and stake Count Dracula before sunset... otherwise he will come after you. Mr Dracula Help Mr Dracula make a monster. Dr Franky and The Monster Help Dr Franky make a monster. The Evil Dead Ash must destroy the Evil Dead before they take his soul. Freddy Kruger LiveGuide Freddy through a 3D dreamworld in search of victims. Friday the 13thFind and kill Jason before he does the same to you. Frightmare Very difficult horror platform game with great graphics. Ghostbusters Who do you call? Duh... Ghostbuster management style game with a great intro. (Not as good as the Sega Megadrive platform game though!) Ghostbusters 2 Five years on, investigate the sewers beneath NY for signs of ghostly activity... Real Ghostbusters Do you wanna be a REAL ghostbuster? Gremlins 2A platform adventure involving those not so cute creatures. Ghosts 'n Goblins Watch out for your clothes as well as your skin in this classic Atari port. Ghouls 'n' Ghosts Just like Ghosts 'n Goblins but with better graphics and gameplay. Haunted House Can you escape from the haunted house in this platform game? House of the Living Dead Avoid the nasty monsters in this puzzle game. Hummer House of Horror Investigate an old deserted house in this text adventure. Jack the Ripper Track down Jack the Ripper and bring him to justice in this above average text/graphics adventure. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 JawsAvoid the shark and grab the treasure from the depths of the ocean. Knightlore First you're a Knight, then you're a werewolf - watch the moon phases in this 3D adventure. The Munsters A platform game featuring those lovable TV monsters. Nightshade The sequel to the 3D adventure Knightlore. Nosferatu the VampireA real time 3D adventure in which you must slay the evil vampire. Vampire Killer Be a vampire killer like Roddy McDowell. Vampire 2 player game in which good tries to take evil's castle and vice versa. Vampires Empire Platform adventure game. Werewolves of London 3D shapeshifting game much like Knightlore. Zombie Zombie The follow up to Ant Attack, this time it's zombies not ants. N.B. A note for the authorities. These downloads are in no way an attempt to distribute pirate software. They are here for novelty value only (and as a history lesson for those who are interested). The ZX Spectrum ROM itself is now in the public domain thus making the Spectrum Emulators 100% legal. But what is an emulator without software? If any of the software companies still exist who made the games above, they can contact me and I will remove any breach of their copyright immediately. Sadly, I was one of the people who bought all these programs years ago and STILL have a real Speccy in my possession and all the games and add-ons ... so who ripped who off first??? I think you know the answer guys... |
