Cert. 18 Length: 87 mins. Available on: NA, Currently in cinemas Price: NA Director: Alexandre Aja Starring: Aaron Stanford, Ted Levine, Kathleen Quinlan With: Vinessa Shaw, Emilie De Ravin Plot: A family road trip goes terrifyingly awry when the travelers become stranded in a government atomic zone. Miles from nowhere, the Carters soon realize the seemingly uninhabited wasteland is actually the breeding ground of a blood-thirsty mutant family... and they are the prey. A horrifying remake of Wes Craven's '70s cult slasher by the same name. Comments: I liked what Alexandre Aja did with this remake, he kept the integrity of the original, which a lot of remakes never keep! This remake was raw as the original, bloody and gory. The fighting scenes were great and amusing. The deformities of the mutant family were also great with excellent F/X!!This movie is great and worth watching. The only problem I had was the shaky camera, which made me lose my point of concentration on the movie and feel ill and dizzy. I know the shaky camera is trying to make the point of view of desperation of our hero but I still do not like that type of stuff! Aja did a great job in this nail-biter type of movie as I knew he would do after all he made 'High Tension', a movie that I give high remarks till that ending! The Hills Have Eyes remake gets 4 pick-axes out of 5. I hate remakes but this one worth watching!! Oh and it is a bit better than Wrong Turn. These mutants speak English! I like Wrong Turn but I thought this movie was a little bit different. I don't know if you have seen the original but it is basically the same movie but gorier and with better F/X. It has lot more explanations of how the mutants became who they are and their hatred towards strangers. Hellgirl's rating: 4/5 |
