Are you struggling to find something to write about on your blog? Have you run out of horror DVDs to watch? Would you like a surprise gift for Christmas? If you can answer "yes" to any of these questions, would you be interested in a $5 horror DVD lucky dip?
Basically, if you donate $5 to me via the PayPal link (which I've added to the right sidebar on this blog), I'll send you a random horror DVD from my collection which is yours to keep forever, give to someone else, sell for a profit or use as a coaster (whatever floats your boat).
As you know, I've got far too many horror DVDs and increasingly less space to store them in. Also, one day, I'll be moving back to England too so I won't be taking all of these DVDs back with me unless I win the lottery.
Not to be too depressing, but I'm getting older, and I'll probably never watch any of these horror movies again anyway. I don't have any great feelings of nostalgia for them, and after investing a huge chunk of my life in the horror genre, I'm getting bored with it all. I'm not that old (I'm much younger than Johnny Depp), but I'd guess that I was watching horror movies before most of you were even born. If you must know, during the mid-'80s in particular, I didn't have to sneak into the cinema to see the horror movies as they came out because I was already old enough to legally buy a ticket.
Here's the thing though, I have no desire to set up a used DVD business or go through all the hassle of eBay. I've had an account on there since 1999 with 100% positive feedback, but I definitely don't want to give eBay any money for doing nothing except allowing me to list items which I could just as easily sell at a yard sale or exchange at my local pawn shop.
What I'm aiming to do is just a bit of fun really, but I don't want to be out of pocket paying for postage. Essentially, nearly all of the $5 donation will be spent on packing and shipping. If you want to donate $14, I'll send you three random DVDs of my choice. That's pretty fair, isn't it? I'm basing this on the how much it cost me to send only one DVD out to the Real Queen of Horror as a competition prize earlier this year.
I'm not going to rip anybody off. I have some good titles, 4-packs, double-features, triple-features, and a few crappy ones (but not many crappy ones). I'm not going to list them individually because that would take too long and leave me with a load of crap which I'll never be able to get rid of. You pay your money and you take your chance, but you won't be disappointed. I'm an honest guy (too honest maybe), and I can promise you that you will most definitely not be disappointed.
There's just one thing you need to know, however. A lot of these DVDs came from pawn shops and some came from Big Lots. Some are still sealed (again, that's just the luck of the draw), but many have superficial damage, case wear, tape or sticker damage to the artwork... little things like that. They were like that when I got them, but they all play perfectly. The DVDs themselves are around 90-100% mint condition. They've been played once or twice, put back in their cases, and aren't covered in cat hair, greasy fingerprints or snotted all over. I'm a collector so I look after my things.
So the big question is "Are you interested?"
If you are, just donate. I'll get your address from the PayPal notification and send you your "gift". Don't worry, I'm not going to turn up on your doorstep like a creepy stalker. I barely even leave the house to go to Wilson Farms and buy Monster energy drinks if I can help it so I'm far too lazy for any of that nonsense. I don't even know how to get home from the other side of the town I live in or where it is on a map of the USA. Geography is hardly my strong point.
Please note:
No returns or exchanges will be accepted, there are no guarantees that you will even like the movies (hey, that's the chance we all take!), but there won't be any crappy "backyard epics" or no-budget nasties. They are all medium to big-budget horror (or sci-fi/horror) titles which are known to horror fans rather than some obscure dreck that makes you want to kick your TV screen in.
I'll post the DVD(s) to you on the first Friday after I receive your donation and PayPal clears it. So if you send $5 on a Wednesday or Thursday, you probably won't get a parcel until just over a week later. There will probably be delays over the Christmas period as I'm sure you realise. I doubt anything will get lost, but I will accept no responsibility (financial or otherwise) for the errors of the US Postal Service.
I will also only be posting these DVDs to the "lower 48 States of America" not internationally (or to Hawaii or Alaska even though they are both underneath Texas on my map of the USA).
